Family Holidays During Peak Travel
When you set off travelling as a family, you can expect an experience which is often mixed, excitement, nerves and tired eyes can be both challenging and rewarding, but one thing’s for sure, never plain sailing! Navigating busy roads, airport terminals, masses of luggage, and tired or bored children, it’s best you get prepared, to allow for a stress-free trip and a happier occasion for all.
How to plan ahead
Taking a little time to prep beforehand can aid to an all-round smoother journey, and to ensure you have everything you need, one tip is to write yourself a list, one you can check off, to ensure the essentials are taken care of. Separate into pre airport, at the airport and upon landing.
Think pre-boarding – passports, travel documents, suitcases and insurances, charging cables and travel contacts. At the airport, entertainment for the children, layers to keep warm, nappies and cleaning items if applicable and SNACKS! Plenty of snacks to keep those hungry tums at bay. Reduce stress by putting the time in before you head to the airport, this is crucial for you and your family, and a happier travel experience.
Airports for families
Airports are big, filled with people, carts, luggage and hustle and bustle. Just stepping inside can feel stressful! Choosing airport parking that is closest to the terminal, and easy like Meet and Greet Airport Parking – this can start you in good stead and get you quickly where you need to be. Airports have everything you can think of, but make sure you have left plenty of time for toileting, snacks and treats, just do you are not rushing or feeling the demand of time.
Children and aeroplanes!
Airplanes are exciting for children, but they can soon become fed up and bored. Long flights especially need that extra bit of planning, for children. It’s a good idea to pack a little in-flight entertainment, think colouring, games, books, and movies. You can also think about pyjamas, and a blanket or familiar item such as a doll or bear to make having a sleep that little more enticing!
Logistics logistics!
You know it can happen! With so many flights and people, there are often unexpected delays which doesn’t bode well for children. Delays are out of your hands, they cannot be controlled, and getting upset or angry will only exacerbate the situation. Try to stay positive and calm, after all, there are teams of people there to help and provide support. Take the opportunity if you are delayed by watching the aeroplanes taking off and landing – this is enjoyable time together.
Help is at hand…
Always reach out for help if you are unsure or need help. The airports are busy with people here and there; however, some people are there to help, support and show you the way. Be sure to ask, this will pave the way for a much more enjoyable trip.
