Top Tips For Booking Cheaper Flights

If you haven’t already booked your flight to your destination, be it a short business trip, a long haul retreat, or a family filled holiday, here at Ace we can point you in the right direction, and provide you with some top tips to save you money too.
Try to book as early as possible, the closer to the date of departure, the more expensive the flights will usually be.

Check social media sites

Most airlines now have social media sites to advertise. ‘Liking’ and checking them regularly will allow you to tap into low / special fares that are sometimes available only to their social fans. Many times you have to be fast though, as deals can be gone within hours.

Check one way flights with two different airlines

Sometimes it’s worth it to mix and match, you may find that with one airline, outbound may be cheap, but inbound is expensive. An inbound flight with a different airline on the same day might just be cheaper, ultimately making your return flight cheaper. Also, if there are a few airports around you, check their prices too, you could even fly to one airport and depart from another!

Early riser?

Flight that depart early in the morning are often cheaper than those at peak times in the afternoons.

Frequent Flyer?

If you fly frequently it may be worth signing up to an airlines rewards system, or an air mile reward company. Earn miles while you shop / fly!
Apparently the cheapest days to fly are Tuesday and Wednesdays and you will see a sharp increase in prices nearing weekend and around / through school holidays..

Be Flexible

If your dates don’t have to be rigid, be sure to search flexibly, and avoid trying to depart / arrive on peak days like Friday or Sunday. An extra day of holiday may cost you a little more, but often can be cheaper than a peak time airfare.
A lot of websites allow you to search around your dates, giving you the option to go -/+ 3 to 7 days around your date search. Some even have a whole month view.
If you know your dates and are just looking for a cheap flight, use a flight comparison site. These sites scrape the net on your behalf, and provide you with the cheapest flights for your chosen dates. Our top favourites are:
